چکیده

Introduction Adaptive support ventilation (ASV) is a dual control mode, using measured dynamic compliance and time constant, with an automated adjustment of tidal volume and respiratory rate combined to meet the preset minute ventilation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of (ASV) in restoring air flow stability, decrease work of breathing and improving dyssynchrony in ventilated patients with variable airway resistance.

Measurement of air trapping, intrinsic positive end-expiratory pressure, and dynamic hyperinflation in mechanically ventilated patients.

Severe airflow obstruction is a common cause of acute respiratory failure. Dynamic hyperinflation affects tidal ventilation, increases airways resistance, and causes intrinsic positive end-expiratory pressure (auto-PEEP). Most patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease have dynamic hyperinflation and auto-PEEP during mechanical ventilation, which can cause hemodynamic compro...

The issue of dynamic hyperinflation in acute respiratory distress syndrome patients.

Dynamic hyperinflation is produced by a diffuse expiratory flow limitation impairing exhalation under mechanical ventilation. It constitutes a serious clinical problem in patients exhibiting bronchial asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, when mechanical ventilation is required. But this phenomenon may also complicate respiratory support in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) ...

Brochard Intrinsic ( or auto - ) positive end - expiratory pressure during spontaneous or assisted ventilation

The mechanisms generating intrinsic or auto-positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) during controlled mechanical ventilation in a relaxed patient also occur during spontaneous breathing or when the patient triggers the ventilator during an assisted mode [1, 2]. These include an increased time constant for passive exhalation of the respiratory system, a short expiratory time resulting from a rel...

Series 0noninvasive Ventilation in Acute and Chronic Respiratory

Equipment needs for noninvasive mechanical ventilation. B. Schönhofer, S. Sortor-Leger. #ERS Journals Ltd 2002. ABSTRACT: Noninvasive mechanical ventilation (NIV) has a long tradition for the treatment of chronic respiratory failure and more recently has also been applied in acute respiratory failure. Based on this experience both critical care ventilators and portable ventilators are used to p...

Overview of mechanical ventilatory support and management of patient- and ventilator-related responses.

Nurses must be knowledgeable about the function and limitations of ventilator modes, causes of respiratory distress and dyssynchrony with the ventilator, and appropriate management in order to provide high-quality patient-centered care. Prompt recognition of problems and action by the nurse may resolve acute respiratory distress, dyspnea, and increased work of breathing and prevent adverse even...
